This is the prototype of the iris scanner, the first one produced by Thai researchers to verify identification.
The iris biometric identification system is used worldwide. Thailand also imported the iris scanners to use at high security venues.

The Thai research team spent two years to test the prototype of the iris biometric scanner. They used infrared cameras to record iris prints of 200 people in a database. When they compared the data base to the iris patterns of each person, the percentage of error was only 0.0014.

“There is rarely a slim chance for two persons to have similar iris even if they are twins. Our right and left iris are also different.”, said head of research team, Asst Profess. Somying Thainimitr.

The iris scanner produced by Thai researchers costs only 40,000 baht, ten times lower than an imported one. The researchers aim to produce the iris scanner for commercial use.
